I proudly present: my favourite hike during my travels: the Kepler Track. After all the tramping in the last days and weeks I had been a bit overwalked and I actually had only booked the huts for the track because the forecast had been alright. Thus, I did not really expect a lot from the track. The first day was a lot of bushwalking without many views and a quite steep ascent of 1000 meters. But once I arrived at Luxmore Hut there was a pretty good view over Lake Te Anau and the hut ranger Pat gave us some information about nature and wildlife on a guided walk.
The following day kept me enthusiastic for the next few weeks. Every time I had a look at the pictures or thought about walking the track I had to smile. Even now I have to. Throughout the whole day I was walking across mountain ridges with stunning views to both sides: valleys, lakes, mountains, sky and clouds. It had snowed the night before and the track as well as the peaks were partly covered with snow. So hiking was a bit of a challenge, but the views made up for all the effort and wet feet.
- Here we go.
- The cheeky Kea, the world’s only mountain parrot.
I filmed heaps of videos as well, but you have to wait for them until I get home. I do hope, though, that the fascination, the openness and the beauty of the track become visible in the pictures.
